I understand that by completing and submitting this application, I give ASHRAE permission to verify the information within as being true and accurate. Further, I understand that failure to renew my certification will result in expiration of my Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) credential and the removal of my name from the list of active certification-holders.

Code of Ethics

As a condition of earning and maintaining certification, I agree to uphold and abide by the Code of Ethics, the tenets of which are set forth as follows:

1. Exercise a reasonable industry standard of care in the performance of professional duties.

2. Perform professional duties with trust, integrity, and honesty.

3. Hold paramount the health and safety of the public in the performance of professional duties.

4. Work in a manner consistent with all applicable laws and regulations; demonstrate integrity, honesty, and fairness in all activities; and strive for excellence in all matters of ethical conduct.

5. Act with integrity in any relationship that involves an employer or client and disclose fully to an affected employer or client any conflicts-of-interest resulting from business affiliations or personal interests.

6. Represent qualifications accurately and honestly.

7. Offer products and services only in areas where competence and expertise will satisfy the client and public need.

8. Agree to comply with and uphold all policies, procedures, guidelines, and requirements of the certification program; use the designation as authorized and only in the approved manner; acknowledge that the certificate and marks are the property of their respective owners; and return the certificate and discontinue use of the designation and marks when required to do so.

9. Accept responsibility for maintaining the credential through recertification and continuously uphold the Code of Ethics.

10. Voluntarily and immediately report any felony convictions or other legal dispositions that would constitute violations of this Code of Ethics that have not already been disclosed, regardless of when they occurred, and report any conditions that prohibit fulfillment of duties as set forth in the competency requirements.


Implicit in this agreement is an obligation not only to comply with the mandates and requirements of all applicable laws and regulations, but to act in an ethical manner in all professional services and activities. Certified persons who fail to comply with the Code of Ethics are subject to disciplinary procedures which may result in sanctions.

The following types of sanctions may be imposed on individuals found in violation of one or more of the tenets. Sanctions shall be based on the severity of the violation, and shall include, but not be limited to:

  • Cease and Desist
  • Written reprimand
  • Written reprimand with remediation
  • Censure
  • Suspension
  • Revocation
  • Permanent revocation.

In addition to imposing sanctions, ASHRAE shall have the authority to report sanctions to legal and regulatory authorities, and other credentialing organizations as appropriate.

CPMP Applicants wishing to apply for the Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) certification examination must meet the following Eligibility Criteria.

A. Participation in One Commissioning Project as a CPMP

*Building science education is defined as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction science, construction management, architecture and other majors/fields of study designed to train people for careers in the building industry.

** Building industry experience is defined as design, construction, testing and commissioning, code enforcement and operations.

Please provide the following requested information for each of three additional commssioning projects, none of which may one-or two-family residential buildings. Over the three projects, the applicant must have participated in a minimum of six of the following activities:

Professional Development Hours (PDHs)

Professional Development is a process used by certified persons to maintain and advance their competency. CPMPs renewing as BCxPs must earn 50% of their PDH requirement from “Third-party Continuing Education” in subject matter related to tasks in the BCxP exam blueprint and the other 50% from “Additional Qualifying PDH Options” in related subject matter.

C. I have read and understand the contents of the Candidate Guidebook. I agree to abide by all ASHRAE and AMP, ASHRAE exam development and delivery vendor, rules and regulations as they pertain to the "Building Commissioning Professional" (BCxP) certification program and recertification examination.

I agree not to engage in any misconduct, either in the testing room or during a break. Misconduct may include creating a disturbance, using electronic communications equipment, giving or receiving help, recording examination questions or taking notes, or attempting to take the examination for someone else. Engaging in misconduct will result in dismissal from the examination, my score not being reported, and forfeiture of my examination fee.

I understand all examination questions are the copyrighted property of ASHRAE; therefore, it is forbidden under federal copyright law to copy, reproduce, record, distribute or display examination questions by any means, in whole or in part, and that doing so may subject me to severe civil and criminal penalties.

I have not taken the BCxP recertification exam in the last three months. In addition, I confirm that the information I have submitted in this application is complete and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief. I agree to comply with the recertification requirements and to supply any information needed for the assessment.

I understand that, if, at any time, the information I have submitted is found to be incomplete or inaccurate, my application may be rejected, my examination results may be delayed or voided, and my certification may be rescinded.

Further, I understand that ASHRAE and AMP retain the right to audit any and all applications at any time.

Should I succeed on the BCxP recertification exam, I agree to the following conditions:

  • Inform the Certification Committee, without delay, of matters that can affect my capability to continue to fulfill the certification requirements, or risk suspension or withdrawal of the certification.
  • Make claims regarding BCxP certification only within the scope of the BCxP certification,
  • Not to use the certification in such a manner as to bring ASHRAE certification into disrepute,
  • Not to use the certificate in a misleading manner.

Also, I understand that the certificate of certification I am issued is the sole property of ASHRAE Certification; therefore, should my certification be suspended or revoked, the certificate shall be returned to ASHRAE Certification. Should my certification be suspended or revoked, I as well will refrain from any further promotion of myself as an ASHRAE Certified Professional and I will refrain from use of all references to an ASHRAE Certified status.
